My mom is in town from China for 2 1/2 weeks. You need to understand about us - we're all obsessed with each other and love playing together. We're so excited Mom's here - and for all the other family that's coming soon. I probably won't post much because we'll be too busy playing. I just want to throw the blog world a bone and give small hints as to the fun we're having. I'll post more details as well as pictures later.
So far:
Mom landed at the airport
the girls and I picked her up
ate at Taco Bell (what she wanted)
Went to the temple with THE/Melissa
(Today)
Paid state taxes (thanks Matt and Bishop)
McKenzie's bridal shower
play outside - it was amazing
currently playing Cash Flow
We've had a wonderful time. Today was delicious and last night wonderful. Mom's been amazing even though she's been sleepy. The random short list above does not explain how fabulous it's been. I'll tell you later. This is just helping me remember what to tell you about. (Don't worry, I won't say anything about paying state taxes. There are no more details to tell you about that - except that we get more money than we thought we would. Yay!)

Found my Phone!
I lost my phone at Target last week and got it back from them today! Yay! I don't even like talking on the phone very much, but I am sure excited to have my phone back. Same with driving. I don't love to drive, but I sure love that I am able to do so and that I have a car to drive. Anyway, if you tried calling me in the last 5 days or so and it didn't work that's why. Yay!

What Easter Isn't About
Another quick story. This morning we took the girls to the Orem City Easter Egg hunt. I think it's really fun. Matt didn't, but that was because they started really late, and it was cold. Amy was thrilled to be at an activity and to get candy. She was cold, but she didn't mind. ANYWAY. We talked to a lady before it started because she was waiting nearby and was friendly. During the hunt, we ended up near that lady and her daughter again. And I witnessed this scene:
NL (Nice lady) encouraged her daughter R (age 18 months) to pick up candy and put it in her basket. UM (Unknown Man) comes near picking up all the candy he can grab and offers one to R. NL kindly declined saying that R could do it all by herself and that she thinks this hunt is for the kids, not for the parents. UM gets very upset and explains that his son is 16 months old and needs the help and suggests that NL should mind her own business. NL [in a nice tone of voice] says that R is 18 months and is doing fine by herself and repeats that the hunt is for the kids not the parents. UM again says that NL should mind her own business.
The end.
I was sad. An Easter Egg hunt for children under 3. Contention is not what's best for us, and it does not help anyone feel happier. I was still able to have a wonderful time - and I was really grateful I wasn't a part of the scene because I am a pretty non-c0nfrontational (sometimes wussy) person - but I was just sad that that had happened.

Tender Mercy
I'm too sleepy to do this story justice, but I don't want to forget to blog it. So here's the shortened version.
Last night I was depressed (no good reason, do not worry, I'm fine.) I was a little mood swingy and couldn't make up my mind what I wanted. Not much sounded good. We had Matt's mission reunion, but I really didn't want to go. And the kids were tired, and I was afraid they'd be really grumpy. But I didn't want to stay home without Matt either and have to put them to bed myself. I finally decided I wanted to go to the library.
It just so happened that a jazz trio was performing at the library last night, and Amy was thrilled. We didn't go sit in the audience, but Amy was transfixed in her spot listening, watching, and clapping (at appropriate times.) She even asked me if the instrument she saw was a trumpet. It wasn't. But she was awesome at saying euphonium, in case you were wondering.
We all love the library.
Amy loves reading books, riding the elevator, taking the stairs, telling me that the man in one of the statues is asleep and that we shouldn't wake him up, doing all sorts of things all by herself. At one point I was on the phone, and she asked for my library card. I gave it to her, and by the time I was done and ready to check out books, she already had it in the slot. And she knows just where to put the books to check them out. She's awesome at it. Partway through our excursion, Amy forgot that she was in a no talking mood and said something out loud. We laughed about it, and she decided to be in a talking mood. Which was great cause she had some funny things to say. Amy was tired and was wearing slippers (the girls went in their jammies) that were too small for her. But she stayed happy and was SO obedient, doing whatever I asked immediately. I was so impressed and happy with her.
Noel had a BLAST taking books off the shelf (and trying to eat them.) She even crawled more than she ever has (which really isn't much) to get to the books. I was so proud. Noel was tired and should have been hungry, but she stayed cheerful the whole time.
The concert lifted my spirits, and Amy and Noel lifted them even more. I enjoyed a few minutes of reading my own book while the girls did their thing with the board books. And I had a great time reading some books with Amy and listening to her "read." She cracks me up. By the time we left, I was very happy and amused, and I had lots to tell Matt about our fun time at the library. We even bought shakes on the way home to say thanks to Amy for being so good. (That's really why we went to get shakes. It just so happened that Matt and I each wanted one too. But that's beside the point.)
I felt like the girls' good moods when they were overly tired and Noel hungry were little miracles. I truly feel that God blessed me by helping them feel happy and have pleasant dispositions last night because they can cheer me like few other people/ things can. I was grateful to God and to my sweet girls (and to Orem Library which I love) for helping me feel happy again.

When Amy's too Quiet...
I just went to check on Amy (who's been quiet most of the morning) and just see how she's doing. I found her in her bed with her blanket on and her binkie in. I asked her if she was ready to go ni-nite. She nodded. That's my kind of parenting. I was just thinking she needed to go to bed soon. Perf.
Who Rules This Roost?
It all started yesterday when Amy brought her socks and shoes out of her room and had Matt help her put them on. We asked her where she was going, and she said the store. News to me. I took her outside to play with sidewalk chalk because she really wanted to go outside. After a while she took off her coat and ran to the van. She wanted to get in so I let her, figuring she'd want to play in there. She does that sometimes. She climbed right in the car seat and started buckling it. I asked where we were going. The store. Oh, we are are we? I asked her what we were going to do at the store. Candy. Naturally.
So we went to the store. On the way, I told Amy to say, "You're a sucker, Mom." Instead she said, "I want a sucker." Good girl.
After picking her two candies at the store, I asked her if we should go. She said no. I told her if we stay in Target we'd probably buy more things. That didn't seem to bother her. I was more concerned about it bothering her daddy.
Sure enough, I found the girls matching (yellow) Easter dresses that were cheap and some pajamas for Amy on a great clearance. When I was checking out I mentioned that that was some expensive candy (especially since I wasn't planning on buying any candy in the first place.) The checker teased me that maybe I just didn't know the layout of the store. The candy and the kids' clothes were really not in the same place. She said she'd give me the benefit of the doubt that maybe I just didn't know. But next time I wanted candy, I should just go to the candy section. I laughed a lot.
So $40 later, Amy got her trip to the store and her candy. And I had had no intention of going to the store anyway. I'm a sucker, and Amy rules this roost.
