Matt
For those who read the blog who are not in our ward or in our semi-immediate family, Matt got a new calling today. He has been serving as the ward executive secretary for a little over a year and a half. Today he was called as the second counselor in the bishopric. Thank you to all who offered their congratulations and/or condolenscences today. (I don't know how to spell. Sorry.)
Many were sympathetic for me because Matt won't spend much time at home on Sundays. However, if you refer back to the part where Matt has been serving as the executive secretary and if you are familiar with all that entails, you will realize that this is nothing new for us. See the executive secretary goes too all the same regular Sunday meetings as the rest of the bishopric. He is basically part of the bishopric. He also goes and makes visits with the bishop and his counselors each Tuesday night. In fact, we both think that I will probably get to see a little more of Matt on Sundays now. Before, he stayed as long as the bishop. The counselors left sooner than that almost always. And after meetings on Sunday mornings, Matt could come home before church now where he was usually running around like a chicken with his head cut off before. I wouldn't be surprised if there were plenty of times to come where he would make it home from 8:30 am to after 5 pm just like before; still, I think I'll be seeing a little more of him. The disadvantage is, not sitting by him in church. I'll survive. That was a long tangent.
So the most important thing I wanted to say about Matt's new calling is that we are both really happy about it. I don't mean to brag about my husband - Ok, maybe I do - but I think he is pretty amazing. So I think he will do a great job. We are grateful that he has already had this time of getting familiar with church administration, with our bishop and his first counselor, Brother Coleman, and with the ward members. He already knows so many in our ward and loves them all. I have seen how devoted he is to building God's kingdom. (That's a HUGE part of why I married him.) The Lord said, "If ye have desires to serve God, ye are called to the work." I think another aspect of that is that if you have desires to serve God, you will serve Him well. Matt may feel a bit overwhelmed, but his desire to do a good job and to please the Lord will motivate him to do what is necessary for the Lord to be pleased.
Just today I already feel we have been richly blessed by his new calling. My parents and brother came, and his sister and two brothers came with their families. One brother drove up from California on Friday and Saturday only to turn around to head back tonight and tomorrow just to support Matt. And because Matt asked him to ordain him a high priest. Thanks for coming, Lance. That meant so much to us! We were sad that Matt's parents couldn't be here, but they are on a mission in Australia. We're glad for that too!
Matt shared a funny and humble and uplifting testimony during Sacrament Meeting. Brother Law also shared a testimony about how he has grown in his calling in the bishopric. I appreciated the things he said. We will miss the Laws when they move. I hope everything goes well for them. His ordination and setting apart were uplifting. I felt blessed hearing them and sharing that time with him and with the Dones and Wadleys who were there to be set apart as well (the men in the families).
After the ordination and setting apart, all the family came back to our house for dinner. I was a bit nervous about it as I have never hosted that many people for dinner at my own house all by myself. But I had lots of help. I was able to do the shopping and house cleaning - thanks to my friend BriAnne for watching Amy while I cleaned - Friday, some of the prepration Saturday and this morning, and I had help in the kitchen today. (Thanks to Mom and Melanie for helping prepare and clean, Robin for bringing the vegetables, and Abby, Robin, and Mom for bring tables and chairs.) We had a great time, and everything went smoothly. What a blessing.
I feel grateful to the Lord for giving us opportunities to serve and to grow. I have found great joy in supporting Matt in his calling. I am glad he has had such a big responsibility already in our marriage so that I have learned how to support him. I hope I can be the support he needs now. I consider this new experience a great blessing for our family, and overwhelmed as he is, I know Matt feels the same way.
Last of all, I just want to say: I love you Matt!

She Never Ceases to Amaze
We just got back from Center Street Musical Theater's performance of Pirates of Penzance. We love that place! And the musical was hilarious.
But the point of this post is that we want to brag a little about our little angel.
Amy's day:
Wake up at 5:00am. Eat. Go to the Buchanans'. Play almost the whole time. Fall asleep 15 minutes before picked up by Mommy and Daddy at 8:00. Sorry Heather and Jared for the missed sleep. :(
Naptime. Eat. Play. etc. etc. Mostly happy throughout.
4:00pm Family trip to the library. Play. Play. Play. Other than the two little bonks she got which made her cry, she had a great time at the library. (And it was fun to see Carter and Dillan at the library!)
5:00pm. Leave the library. Promply fall asleep in the car. Sleep until 7:00.
7:00pm. Go to Center Street Musical Theater with Mommy and Daddy. (I know some of you are thinking, "They took their baby to a musical? Are they nuts?" First of all, babies are allowed at this theater, and I think that is cool. Second, read on to hear about the star of the show - at least for us.) Scream in the car the whole way there because it has been WAY too long since Amy ate. Get to the theater. Eat. Smile again. Watch the show. Laugh. Play with Mommy's face while sitting on Daddy's lap. Poke Daddy in the side so he thinks Mommy is trying to get his attention. Wave. Stand up supported only by a chair. Walk around with Mommy's help. Love the show. Be happy the whole time.
9:50pm. Leave the theater. Rub eyes. Fuss very little because tiredness is attacking. Flirt with one of the cast members that greeted us after the show. Promptly fall asleep in the car on the way home.
1010ish pm. Carefully get out of the car seat without waking up (Daddy is the star of that performance. She's never slept through getting out of the car seat before.)
10:37pm. Mommy types up Amy's schedule for all to see how wonderful Amy is.
She barely fussed all day from way early wake up time to hour and a half musical. We discussed on the way home how we are always so amazed that she is really that agreeable. Amy rarely cries without a really good reason - she's hungry, she's sleepy, she got scared (toilets, vacuums, and loud noises) or she got hurt. Occasionally she gets frustrated, and sometimes she has a hard time getting to sleep and gets really into "crying it out." Other than that, happy beautiful baby. We feel so blessed!
So this standing up by herself thing only supported by a chair is a new thing as of today. She's really pretty good at it, and she loves it. So cute! She can't pull herself up, and she can't walk while holding on to chairs, but she can stay still and grin. She is also really loving walking while holding on to Mommy or Daddy. She's so cute doing it.
Tonight during the show she would sometimes touch my face and then pull her hand back to right in front of her mouth and wave. It was adorable!!!
Yay Amy!!! We love you!!!

Play Group!!!
We went to play group this morning. We got there late so everyone else was ready to leave before us. So we just stayed and played. Hailey decided that she wanted to push Amy in the swing. She kept saying, "So high" and "Havin fun?" Hailey's adorable. It was Amy's first time in the sand, and she seemed to enjoy it. I did have to clean a little out of her mouth, but that's ok. And a whole new outfit when she got home. I'm glad she had fun. She also got to play with grass more. I'm skeptical of the grass by our house because there are a lot of dogs who leave their mark around here. So it was fun to tell her about sand and grass.

Sleeping Beauty (and Handsome)
We've gotten some great pictures of Amy and Jack sleeping lately. We just take the pictures no matter the time of day with our normal camera so the lighting's not always great. Sorry. Enjoy:
Family Picnic & Giggles
I didn't realize I was so behind. Two weeks ago Saturday we went to the playground and had a picnic and some play time. Here's cute Amy:

Every once in a while when I play with Amy I find something that she thinks is really funny. Here's such a time:
